Bombers Be Strong, Be Healthy, Be Happy
As the necessary need for mental health awareness and self-care has grown over the course of the last few years, this last year specifically, SWMHS has collectively decided to honor our commitment to servicing the student (and faculty) populations. Our inaugural virtual mental health fair is being held between May 10 – May 17, 2021 and the community will be able to utilize this site as a continual resource for their everyday actions. Mental health awareness and self-care is a top priority which we hope those in need will be able to implement in their daily practices.
Keynote Presentations
Matt Bellace
Since 1995, Matt Bellace has been a professional speaker and stand-up comedian. His programs encourage over a hundred thousand youth and adults per year to pursue natural highs and dealing with disappointment in a healthy way.
Dr. Bellace has a Ph.D. in clinical neuropsychology, which is the study of the brain and behavior. He worked at the National Institutes of Mental Health and completed his internship at the traumatic brain and spinal cord units at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He has also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at Drexel University’s Counseling Center.
He’s the author of the book, A Better High, a contributing author for the National Geographic Kids series “This or That,” and was a recurring comedian on truTV's "World's Dumbest." He was also featured in the documentary “Voices of Hope,” about recovery from substance abuse.
Matt’s presentation will focus on mental health and coping with adversity.
Jehyve Floyd
Jehyve Floyd is an American basketball player for Hapoel Gilboa Galil of the Israeli Premier League. Floyd played high school basketball at Sayreville War Memorial (Class of 2015). He played college basketball for the Holy Cross Crusaders, where he was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year in both 2018 and 2019.
Brandon Bielak
Brandon Bielak was born and raised in Sayreville, NJ. In college, he was a standout pitcher for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team. He went on to pitch in the Cape Cod baseball league where he was named a league All Star. In 2017, he was drafted by the Houston Astros where he is currently a Major League pitcher.

The Instrumental Program and Marching Unit of SWMHSBand Program
Concert Band:Consisting of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, this group studies and performs masterworks of the wind band repertory. This ensemble represents the curricular (during theschool-day) portion of the band program where attention is given towards technical development, sight reading, and stylistic familiarity. This group has performed at concert venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
Advanced Jazz Studies:This class is for advanced musicstudents by audition. Courseworkwill consist of knowledge andskill development in the areas of: music theory, improvisation, music history, and ear training.
Marching Band:The Sayreville High School Marching Band performs at halftime shows for all Bomber football games, town parades, as well as various competitive and festival events. In recent years, the band has won several TOB State and NY/NJ Regional Championship in the Tournament of Band Division 3A division.
Pit Orchestra:This group of musicians performs for the yearly spring musical at Sayreville War Memorial High School. Rehearsals begin in January and performances usually occur during the month of March. The instrumentation requirements vary from year to year depending on the show. Usually, the pit orchestra is a combination of student and professional musicians.
Colorguard:The Colorguard is a part of the Sayreville Marching Unit and performs with the band at football games and at competitions. The Colorguard acts as the expression of the music that is being performed. The Colorguard uses flags, rifles,sabres, and dance to interpret the intensity and melody of the music that the band plays. The Colorguard moves around the football field in drill spots while they perform their routine.

Club Description:C.B.E.Clubis an activity structured to serve as part of the Cooperative Business Education classroom instructional program. It is also designed to encourage leadership development and expose the participants to career opportunities and other pertinent information about the world of work.

Fedora Productions
The Student Record Label and Entertainment Production Company of SMWHS
Fedora Productions is an enrichment and cross-curricular independent study program designed to introduce students to the different aspects of music business and production. This will provide the students with a deeper insight into the different careers available in the music and entertainment industry as well as increasing student awareness regarding intellectual-property rights. The students meet with Mr. Craft on Thursdays during varying class times.
Fedora Productions is run as a real record/production company is run. Students are placed into departments based upon their talents and interests. The basic organizational map is as follows:
Human-Resources/Management Team – Its members interview all applicants and form the rest of the teams/departments.
Accounting/Finance Team – This team is responsible for determining and maintaining a budget for all projects.
Artists & Repertoire Team – The A&R department locates talent who will be involved in Fedora Production projects/events.
Legal & Contracts – The L & C team creates contracts with talent and obtains all copyright permissions for Fedora Productions projects.
Talent Department – This team is made up of the students selected from the recommendations of the A & R. They are the performers and songwriters.
Promotions/Marketing and Graphics Team – This department is responsible for creating promotional materials for product distribution throughout SWMHS , the district and the community at large. This department is also responsible for creating all graphical materials such as CD labels, programs and more.
Audio Production Team – This team is responsible for recording the materials developed by the Talent team in the Sayreville Choir’s 24-track Recording Studio.

Information regarding International Society
International Society:
The international society is a multicultural club that holds meetings once a month in the cafeteria. Our club allows students to become familiar with the cultures around the world and enables many students of different backgrounds to interact with each other. The International Society works with the lower schools to promote tolerance and understanding of different music, foods, languages, celebrations and religions that exist within our community.
Math Club
Information regarding the Math Club of SWMHS
Members of the Math Club engage in the following activities:
1 Members participate in six Math League competitions where they compete against other High Schools in New Jersey.
2. Members engage in fundraising activities. Money raised is used to cover the cost of the Math League registration, graduation awards for students who demonstrate excellence in mathematics and our annual math club breakfast.
3. Members also have the opportunity to share their mathematical skills with elementary students.. Each year a group of students are sent to Arleth School to participate in our "Teacher for the Day" program.
National Honor Society
Election to the National Honor Society is the highest honor which a high school student can receive. Membership is restricted to those juniors and seniors who have maintained a 3.5 grade point average during their high school years, and who exhibit the positive traits of leadership, service and good character. In order for a student to be considered eligible to apply for National Honor Society membership, a student: 1) Must maintain a 3.5 grade point average; 2) Must be active in at least 3 school sponsored clubs/sports teams (throughout their high school career starting in grade 9) which are registered as such through Student Council and the Board of Education to be considered for membership; No academic Honor Societies or organizations associated to classes where credit is earned (Peer Leadership, REP, etc.) will be accepted. As well, no production run under an organization will count as an activity, however the student may list the sponsoring club as the activity. 3) Should have at least two consecutive memberships in activities. The greater the numbers for items (2) and (3), the better the chance of selection. A charge of cheating on tests/assignments or any other conduct, including school suspensions, which is not in compliance with National Honor standards may be sufficient to deny acceptance into the National Honor Society. Any student meeting these requirements will be considered eligible to apply for NHS membership. These students must submit to the Faculty Council an activity form showing specific information regarding activities and offices held. This form, however, does not guarantee membership. All records of students who submit an activity form will be reviewed by the Faculty Council. The Faculty Council shall consist of five faculty members appointed by the principal; the chapter advisor will be an ex-officio member of the council. Each student must receive an above average score of the characteristic ratings of the Faculty Council, according to the established guidelines. This final rating by the Faculty Council will determine those students who will become members of the National Honor Society. Students who are elected in their junior year may maintain membership throughout their senior year by maintaining GPA, service hour standards, and active membership in school clubs/sports teams. Serious violations of school policies could result in termination of membership. The National Honor Society members are involved with other school activities and aim to improve relationships within the school. Its other functions include fundraising activities, which are aimed at the purchase of NHS supplies, the donation of graduation awards, and the contribution to other worthy causes.

National Spanish Honor Society
Information regarding NSHS at SMWHS
La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica recognizes those students who excel in the study of Spanish. The Sayreville Chapter, «La Esperanza,» or "Hope", was established in 1977 and is affiliated with the National Spanish Honor Society, with chapters throughout the nation and the world. A formal Induction Ceremony in Spanish is conducted as prescribed by the National Organization. Invitations to join the Society are made following the first semester to students of Spanish III, IV, and Advanced Placement. The requirements are:
Students of Spanish III: a 90 or better mid-year average in III and a 90 or better final average in I or II, if studied at the high school.
Students of Spanish IV: a 90 or better mid-year average in IV.
Students of Spanish AP: an 85 or better mid-year average in AP.
Invitations are also extended in September to former students of III and IV who achieve a 90 or better final average in their course of the previous year. Final grades from I and II do not affect election in September.
The goals of «La Esperanza» are, in addition to recognizing the academic success of its members, to promote the study of Spanish, to encourage the understanding of the Hispanic culture and people, and to provide opportunities for school and community service to its members. Annual school-wide projects are the Celebration of World Languages Week in March, a Tutoring Program, and a world-wide Pen Pal Service. Society members also participate in Letter Writing Breakfasts to cheer veterans and hospital patients, the making of Hispanic crafts to be given to out-of-school groups, presenting programs in other district schools, and the opportunity for publication of art and writing in the national magazine. The Society also sponsors dinner trips for its members. The officers are president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. The colors are red and gold. The motto is «Todos a una», "All for one".

TIGS (Teens In the Garden State)
The requirements for the club: to be drug, alcohol and smoke free.
We have about 40 members that work hard to make this club a success.
Members of TIGS get together to reinforce their decision to be drug, alcohol, and smoke free. They try to influence their peers to realize that they can have fun without using drugs or alcohol. We provide presentations to the entire school every year that educates the students and staff about the possible effects of using drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. The members have gone on high and low ropes courses together to build trust and friendships. They have done work for Middlesex county and represent our school at Community Unity Day, which requires them to help educate the families of Sayreville about drug and alcohol abuse.
Every summer we send students to a Teen Leadership Conference, which allows students to spend a week attending seminars and workshops dedicated to educating the students about drug and alcohol abuse. Students enjoy the camp so much that they offer another camp for students to reunite when they attend college.
